The Comic Origins Of Cornell 'Cottonmouth' Stokes
We are two days away from the premier of Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix. And where characters like Captain America from the 1940's and Iron Man from the 1960's can get away with some slight modernization… Luke Cage and his villain Cottonmouth aren't even close to their original looks… and that's probably good. There is just something about 70's fashion that doesn't age well.
But where Mike Colter and Mahershala Ali look much more modern, it will be interesting to see how much of the characters origins will remain in the TV series. Marvel has released a new Marvel 101 for Cottonmouth showing us his comic book origins. Last year they did one for Luke Cage.
Cottonmouth was created by Len Wein and George Tuska, first appearing in Power Man #18. Luke Cage was created by Archie Goodwin, John Romita Sr. and George Tuska in Luke Cage: Hero for Hire #1.
