Oops… DC Comics has told retailers that 'due to advance production schedules', the covers of both Supergirl #33 and Superman #14 'ultimately did not reflect the contents of the stories.' And that 'replacement copies with new covers will be provided at no cost to retailers.'
Hang on, what's that? If the contents of a cover don't reflect the insides, DC Comics will replace it for free? That's a new policy. Apparently, it's all down to whether or not they have Year Of The Villain: Dark Gifts content or not, as the covers suggest. And, it seems, they do not.
Retailers are asked to destroy all copies of Superman #14 and Supergirl #33 when they arrive next week. Except of course, they won't, no one thinks they will, they will try and flip them on eBay for five times as much.
The replacement copies of the Superman #14 main edition (above) will have a new cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado (below). This, as well as the variant edition replacement copies, are scheduled to arrive in stores on August 28th without "Year of the Villain" branding on the covers.
Ooh look, Legion content. They haven't changed the solicitation wordage yet, though they probably need to.
Lex Luthor is back in Metropolis-—and he's ready to wreak havoc! First stop, the most dangerous woman in the DC Universe: Lois Lane! Alone, her family a galaxy away, will Lois be tempted by Apex Lex's offer? What does Lex have that this reporter can't turn away from? Don't miss this shocking new twist in the Superman mythos!
The replacement copies of the Supergirl #33 main edition (above) will have a new cover by Kevin Maguire (meant to be below.. but this isn't by Maguire). This, as well as the variant edition replacement copies, are scheduled to arrive in stores on September 4th without "Year of the Villain" branding on the covers.
Hardly seems worth it…

So, which stores are going to obey orders and destroy all copies? Will it be pottymouth Batman all over again?
