Comixology Bestseller List – 11th August 2018 – Marvel's First #1 Seller of the Year

Welcome to the Comixology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Everything is right in the comics world again as Fantastic Four is back on shelves. And it's only fitting that Marvel's first family would be the ones to deliver Marvel's first No. 1 spot this year. Marvel also took 3 of the top 4 spots, the first time this year that's happened as well. (DC filled out the rest of the Top 10 and still won 7-3). Marvel should really hold beloved comic franchises hostage over movie rights more often. It clearly works.

DC had a big gain and loss this week. The good news came from Sandman Universe, landing in the Top 10 and soon making way for four new Sandman series to bolster their Vertigo line. The bad news? Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps is wrapping up with Issue #50, and there won't be another Hal Jordan title until November. Hal Jordan was the model of consistency, selling in or near the Top 10 every two weeks this many issues in. Still, DC has plenty of titles still going strong after or nearing 50 issues, a testament to the success of Rebirth.

Catwoman took a big fall in its second week, dropping six spots out the Top 10 to No. 14 (luckily, she has eight more lives). Red Hood and the Outlaws got a five-spot boost this week thanks to an oversized anniversary issue and a Batman fight. But the biggest boost belongs to Supergirl (returning after a four-month hiatus with a new creative team), rising eight spots into the Top 20. Personally, I credit her new badass costume on the cover.

Jeff Lemire's Bloodshot Salvation wraps up this week ranked at No. 44, far away from the other superhero titles. I truly thought Valiant's excellent 2017 relaunch would gain some more traction, and even if Valiant couldn't complete with the Big 2, they could at least knock on the door. Sadly, it just may never be meant to be, as Valiant has been rarely able thus far to crack the Top 40.
