If I had to describe Help Us! Great Warrior in two words, they would be "delightfully bizarre." From BOOM! Box, written and illustrated by Madeleine Flores, with colors by Trillian Gunn, Help Us! Great Warrior #3 brings us another lively issue complete with comical silly moments and shocking plot twists. You may wonder why I chose such a silly combination of words such as "delightfully bizarre," but those were the words that popped into my head multiple times as I read throughout the issue. For example, Great Warrior takes notice of Hadiyah's soft hands, and this is used as a plot point to move things forward. You can see the scene below.
Another memorable scene was when the group took a break to get something to eat, and the matter of payment came up. I laughed out loud as I read and wondered why Madeleine Flores wrote the scene that way, my curiosity only being based on wanting to know more, not for any negative reason. I wish we could pay for things with friendship in real life. My question was quickly answered as the young man revealed himself to be a demon. Cue an epic Help Us! Great Warrior battle scene!
I won't spoil Great Warrior's big secret, but let's just say, the plot thickens at the end of this issue. As always, the artwork is simple and colorful. I love the chubby cartoon design of the characters, and think that we should probably do a kickstarter for Great Warrior stuffed animals. Let's be honest, we all want to hug her. Overall, I'm happy with the direction the story is headed and can't wait to see what happens next. If you haven't had a chance to check out Help Us! Great Warrior yet, you definitely should.
