Put Snow Blind At The Top Of Your To-Read List This Week: Advance Review Of Issue #1

I'm already sad that this story is a mini-series because it is beyond amazing. I just read the first issue of Snow Blind from BOOM! Studios, written by Ollie Masters, with art by Tyler Jenkins, and I am blown away. The story follows high school teen Teddy, who is a bit of a loner and struggles to be "one of the boys." At constant odds with his father, Teddy decides to rebel and posts a photo of his dad on Facebook, only to learn he and his family are in the Witness Protection Program. From there, things just get crazy.

I want to mention how interesting it is to see social media being tastefully used in a comic book. Even though some may think that because I'm in my mid-twenties, I should be used to social media popping up in books, or even an advocate for it. However, I'm actually quite sensitive to it. Normally, it's a negative for me. This wasn't the case when reading Snow Blind. I found Ollie Masters script to be thorough, sophisticated, and captivating. The main character Teddy is easy to relate to for a bookworm like me. After all, he gets arrested for breaking into a library at the beginning of the issue. Because the story is told from his perspective, I felt very connected to him. The plot is just the right amount of intense to leave you wanting more.

Beyond that, Tyler Jenkins artwork is stunning. It has a watercolor-esque style that manages to capture so much detail, while still providing something unique to the comic. This book should be on the top of your to read list this week. It's one hell of a page-turner. This is a limited series from BOOM! Studios, only set to be around for four issues. I can already tell it's going to be incredibly memorable. Be sure to pick up Snow Blind #1 this Wednesday, December 9th.
