David Gabriel – The Next Publisher Of Marvel Comics?
This is one of those things, you write one article (okay, three) about Marvel Comics and Disney fighting over who gets to do what with Big Hero 6, and all sorts of people come out of the woodwork with different things to say.
And one is that Marvel's Senior Vice President Print, Sales & Marketing, David Gabriel is being prepped to be the company's next publisher, taking over from current Publisher, Dan Buckley.
Now, there is no indication that Buckley is off anywhere. Indeed, he seems rather comfortable in the position.
But eventually all executives move on. And the expectation is, right now, that if Buckley ever gets headhunted by Stark Industries, that Gabriel will be his successor. And so moves are in place to make such a change as smooth as possible.
David Gabriel, famously, is the guy who joked that Marvel would kill a major character every quarter. Except that this is pretty much what had happened every quarter. And he's just been talking about big plans to change Marvel's history in January. And, from personal experience, I know he can be very hands on indeed…
