Giant-Sized Kung Fu Bible Stories Knocks Aside Rocket Raccoon On Its Way To The Top Of Advance Reorder Chart

Greetings from the coal face of the direct comics market. Where retailers try to increase their orders of certain comics ahead of sale. Where supply and demand and most accurately reflected, where you can see which books are hot, where new orders are coming in and how retailers are reacting to new, unanticipated desire!

Bruce Timm and Erik Larsen's edited anthology Giant-Sized Kung Fu Bible Stories may be the surprise entry, but it was a smash hit at San Diego. With work from Larsen and Timm, but also Empowered from Adam Warren, and work from Tom Scioli, Ryan Ottley, Andy Kuhn and four pinups by Arthur Adams.

And now comic retailers have been able to get their hands on a copy. Brce Timm described the inspiration for the project thus,

The old reprint collection Treasuries were great, but the books that really inspired Erik and me were the ones that were specifically created with the over-size format in mind, things like the Kubert / Redondo BIBLE STORIES, the various Marvel / DC crossover epics and Kirby's amazing 2001 adaptation.The artists realised these aren't just regular old comics blown up, but instead really took advantage of the massive scale. SUPERMAN VS. MUHAMMAD ALI is 'merely' a typically great Neal Adams comic when printed in the standard-sized comics format, but at 'Treasury Size' it's a thing of pure gob-smacking awe. So that was what we were trying to do—a collection of stories that NEED to be seen in the Treasury format. It's just a really fun sandbox to horse around in.

Rocket Raccoon is also putting on the numbers, or at least not slipping down the scale as fast as some retailers might have expected, with Legendary Star-Lord not doing badly either in the wake of a certain film. the DC Vertigo launch of Names gets a bump, after DC reinds retailers that it wil be fully returnable. And Deadpool, whether with Hawkeye or X-Force, gets new interest as well. A lot of Marvel interest this week, with a couple of Dynamite projects, Alice Cooper and Ex-Con, getting attention too.
