Nicolas Cage Signs Up For The Expendables 3, With Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford And Wesley Snipes On The Wishlist
Nicolas Cage has had an exciting career so far, his most recent memorable roles including Big Daddy in Kick-Ass, Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider, and Speckles the Mole in G-Force. Now he's the first name officially signed up to the next Expendables movie, and producer Avi Lerner has dropped a few other names of actors he's hoping to get onboard.
Speaking to Total Film, Lerner gave away Cage's name as the first on the confirmed list. He also revealed what his character's name would be, but TF were unable to tell us for certain what he said.
We'd just like to apologise for not catching the name of Nicolas Cage's Expendables 3 character. It's mainly because we got so excited we dropped our dictaphone.
We've listened to the recording several times now, and we're pretty sure Lerner says that Cage will be playing someone called Hunter Grimlenson. Or it could be Hunter Gatherer. Or something that has nothing to do with Hunters.
Nicolas Cage is … (Possibly) Hunter Something!
The producers are also in talks with at least three new actors.
We've approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we've got a character in mind for him. We're talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison.
Snipes is currently incarcerated for tax evasion, but Harrison Ford's future schedule was recently freed up when producer Frank Marshall revealed that Indiana Jones 5 is more or less dead. Odds on Clint Eastwood joining the cast are poor (note Lerner only says that he's been offered a role), as he mainly works as a director these days, has only starred in four films over the last decade, and has not made an action film since 2002's Blood Work. But who knows – we've been proven wrong before and Eastwood may decide to celebrate his eighty-third birthday next year on set with the gang.
Finally, Lerner revealed that they would definitely bring Mickey Rourke, but only if he promises "he won't be too crazy."
