Rick Remender Tells Us The Truth About The Process Of Writing Todays Comics In Uncanny Avengers #1
Mojo is a wonderful Marvel Comics character. A multidimensional being from a media-obsessed, he's been used to parody and satirise the excesses of Hollywood and the more tabloid elements of the comic book industry. Sometimes the parodies he creates become popular in their own right – see X-Babies. It's been a good excuse for comic creators to mock their own indulgences and treatment. Possibly never as much as today though… is Rick Remender talking about entertainment in general here> Or comic books specifically?
First, the suck up.
Then the reality. Also the realisation that someone on Tumblr is now going to create a Devil's Dinosaur Power Pack Force Antique Roadshow and by San Diego there will be cosplay.
A criticism targeted at everything from True Detective to Pretty Deadly. But what's he getting at with his steroid Ronald Reagan?
Emphasis on "Lost" there, I see. So what happens when Mojo gives them what they want (and yes, you'll have to pick up the comic to see what…)
That does feel rather like a Marvel editorial retreat doesn't it? And the reviewers… fat guys, bearded guys, bespectacled guys… but none with all three. How very unrealistic….
Uncanny Avengers Annual is published today by Marvel Comics. Comics courtesy of Orbital Comics, London, who will be presenting a live Orbital podcast event on Saturday for Free Comic Book Day, from 3pm to 7pm, with plenty of surprise comic creator guests!
