Tessa Thompson Talks About that All-Female Marvel Movie

When all of the Marvel cast mates got together for their yearbook picture — or at least we're pretty sure when the picture was taken — we got a picture of a bunch of the female heroes of Marvel standing together. Immediately, a good portion of the internet was like "yes, we want this, now," and it turns out we weren't the only ones. Tessa Thompson revealed that she and a bunch of her cast mates went up to Kevin Feige and asked him about an all-female Marvel movie. While on the red carpet for her new movie AnnihilationIGN asked if she'd heard anything about that.

"I'm not Marvel so I can't make it happen," she said, "but I can tell you that Marvel is hugely collaborative, I think our even our Thor [Ragnarok] movie was basically the product of conversations they'd had with Chris [Hemsworth] and with Mark [Ruffalo] about what they wanted to do next. I think [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige is really excited by the idea, and if you look at what's happened already in Phase 4 with me and [Thompson's character] Valkyrie and our story, and then in Black Panther the women rule supreme."

Thompson went on to say that Marvel seemed interested, and even more since they are finally starting to bring solo heroines to the front lines.

"There's an interest – they're doing Captain Marvel, they're doing a Black Widow – there's an interest in having women at the forefront of this phase. I feel like it's hopeful, who knows."

This in no way confirms that this movie will actually happen, but something like A-Force on the big screen would be a big deal. We're about to move into the next generation of Marvel heroes after Avengers 4, why not have an Avengers team and an A-Force team?

Summary: A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don't apply.

Annihilation, directed by Alex Garland, stars Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It will be released on February 23rd.
