Top 3 Image Picks Releasing This Week

By Matt Spector

New Comic Book Day is almost upon us again and in order to get the most bang for your comic buck, I have tirelessly read through all the newest Image Comics releases and found the best three issues to spend your hard-earned ten dollars on. So without further ado, here are the best three issues being released by Image Comics for June 3rd, 2015. [**Mild Spoilers below!]

The Wicked + The Divine #11

WickedDivine_11Not only is this the best issue of the week but it's the best issue in the series so far as written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Jamie McKelvie. Death god Baphomet is on the warpath and his next attempt at stealing a fellow god's life force by killing them is underway. This is an action packed issue filled with surprises released right off the heels of the announcement to adapt The Wicked + The Divine into a TV show produced by fellow comic book writers Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) and Kelly Sue DeConnick (Bitch Planet).Airboy #1

airboy-1This is the debut issue for the new limited series created by James Robinson and Greg Hinkle. With what might be a meta-masterpiece, Airboy combines the movies Adaption and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and finishes off with a dash of Grant Morrison's Happy (Image Comics). A comic insider's wet dream, Airboy #1 doesn't pull any punches with it's liberal use of cocaine and flaccid penises, while at the same thing inserting moments of gut wrenching honestly. It's sex, drugs, and comic book writing that is not suitable for minors. The Humans #5

Humans05The long awaited return of The Humans is here with the first issue after the release of the first volume of the trade paperback, "Humans for Life." Sons of Anarchy meets Planet of the Apes with a retro feel, The Humans motorcycle club are ambushed Mad Max style with escorting a run of contraband from Oakland to Los Angeles. That means someone set them up, but who? The Humans is written by Keenan Marshall Keller and illustrated by Tom Neely.
