Sonic Turns 25 With Mega Drive Special

In 1991, after Sega requested their design teams to come up with a mascot character and a game to go with it, we saw the release of Sonic the Hedgehog. The creation of the anthropomorphic blue speedster helped make Sega one of the top video game companies during the 16-bit games of the 1990s. This is one of those cases where the mascot out shined the company. As Sega's popularity waned, Sonic has found his way into the geek pop culture along with Mario and Donkey Kong.

Sonic has also been an on-going comic series from Archie Comics since 2002 having published well over 300 various issues over the last two-dozen years. Now Archie is celebrating the creation of the character with a special one-shot called Sonic: Mega Drive #1 for the characters 25th anniversary.
