GREENVILLE, S.C. – Borderlands Books and Games is donating a portion of their sales today to benefit the family of a young superhero fan whose fandom was recently cut short.
On September 28, 6-year old Jacob Hall was injured during a tragic shooting at Townsville Elementary School and the boy later died from his injuries after three days on life support.
Wednesday lines were out the door as many customers came not only to get the latest issues of the battles between fantasy heroes and villains but also show how the tragedy touched their lives as well.
"I have two boys and I can't imagine the pain his family has been through," Borderlands owner Robert Young told Bleeding Cool. "We couldn't think of a reason not to do something, to be honest. We just hope what we raise helps in some small way. Our community always rallies when needed and I could not be more proud of the folks here in the upstate and even soldiers abroad who have shown support for Jacob. He loved super heroes. Heroes bring people together. He sure has done that."
Hall's funeral at Oakdale Baptist Church in Townville, S.C., southwest of Greenville, will be held today and Jacob's parents planned to dress their son in his favorite Batman costume for burial. His mother told CNN pall bearers will also wear superhero outfits at the service and she hopes others in attendance will do the same.
"I don't want suits and ties and all that," Renae Hall told local SC TV station WHNS. "There will be a lot of children there and I don't want it to be scary for them."
Prosecutors in South Carolina have upgraded charges against the shooter, who was not identified because of his young age, from attempted murder to murder following the boy's death.
An online fundraising site has already raised more than $126,000 which will be donated to the family as well. To contribute, visit /www.gofundme.com/2rt6y9jg
