The Back Order List 6/24/20: Die, Spawn, Batman, Thor, & Green Lantern
Every week your Local Comic Book Shop, hopefully, gets in a weekly assortment of comics, trades, posters, action figures, and other goodies from Diamond. Now some of these goodies sell out fast from your LCBS, so Tuesday and Wednesday LCBS retailers get on the phone (more often the computer) and let Diamond know they need more. Or sometimes they go to unpack those Diamond boxes and find items missing, or too damaged to sell (it does happen), retailers have to let Diamond know. However, the phrase no retailer likes to hear when they go to report those shortages, damages or reorders is: "Sorry that item is on back-order," which means there are no more copies to send out from the Diamond warehouse in order to replace damages or shortages. So it's time for another edition of the Back Order List.
What Isn't On The Back Order List?
Since the pandemic started, and the Diamond shutdown happened, DC has been the dominant company with titles on the Back Order List because they've had the most titles being released. They don't seem to be sending Diamond much when it comes to having stock to replace damages and shortages. However, as everyone gets comics back into stores, and on weeks where Marvel puts out comics (throughout June they have shipped comics one week, and then taken one week off), more companies seem to have comics join the list. Looking at the last week, though, it is almost easier to state what isn't on the Back Order List.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Still Strong For Boom
Boom had every cover for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #50 go to Back Order. The Main Cover, the Variant Connecting Cover, the Foil Wraparound Cover, the 1-In-100 Variant Cover, the FOC Variant Cover, all of them gone.
Image Continues To See Creator-Owned Books Disappear Off The Shelf
Starting with the brand new That Texas Blood #1, seeing both covers go on the Back Order List and second print on the way.
Next, we have titles that have been going strong for a while now, yet keep going on the Back Order List from Die #11 (both covers), Middlewest #17, Monstress #28, Mercy #3 (with both covers gone), and Nomen Omen #6 Cover B.
Also, even though Skybound has decided Outer Darkness is not doing well enough, or perhaps because of this, both covers for Outer Darkness / Chew #3 go to the Back Order List.
Finally, the longest-running Image title continues to go on the Back Order List again and again, as Spawn #307 sees all four covers no longer available.
Plus Three From IDW, Oni and Source Point Press
IDW had the Eastman Variant Cover for TMNT #105; Oni also saw the variant cover for Rick and Morty Present the Council of Ricks #1, and from Source Point Press, the odd the Fuehrer and the Tramp #2, all be on the Back Order List.
Marvel's Second Return in June
So after no books the week before from Marvel, this week brought Marvel back, with them taking the week of July 1st off too. Nevertheless, Marvel shows up strong with Empyre Avengers #0 Main Cover, Rescue 2020 #2 Main Cover, and Spider-Ham #5 going on the Back Order List.
Then Marvel has several returns to the Back Order List, with Immortal Hulk #34, Star Wars Bounty Hunters #3, and Thor #5, with both covers for all three comics long gone from Diamond and Thor #5 getting a second print.
DC's Last Week On The List? Well, Batman is Still Disappearing
DC still had a lot of titles go on the Back Order List, though starting on July 8th, most DC titles will not be available through Diamond … but we'll see. Still, a lot of DC books on the list go into specific categories, starting with those books that had both covers on the list. Batman #93, Batman The Killer Smile #1, Red Hour Outlaw #46, and Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #11, had both their main covers and variant covers no longer available from Diamond. Plus, the one cover released for John Constantine Hellblazer #7 is also on the list.
DC Variants Continue to Quickly Not Be Available
The trend also continues for DC Variant Covers that go on the Back Order List quickly after they are released. Aquaman #60, Flash #756, Justice League #47, Justice League Dark #23, Suicide Squad #6, and Teen Titans #42, no longer have their Variant Covers available from Diamond, but their main covers still are.
Hill House Still Going Strong For DC
Joe Hill's Hill House imprint also seems to still be going strong with three books on the Back Order list with the last issue of Hill House Comics Low Low Woods #6 gone, and Plunge #4's Variant Cover, with disturbing art from Gary Frank, also no longer available.
Plus the Last DC 80th Anniversary Special, Green Lantern
Finally, DC's biggest winner for the week was the Green Lantern 80th Anniversary 100 Page Super Spectacular #1 have EVERY variant cover go on the Back Order List. Only the main cover did not go on the Back Order List. Still, the 1940's Variant, the 1950's Variant, the 1960's Variant, the 1970's Variant, the 1980's Variant, the 1990's Variant, the 2000's Variant, and the 2010's Variant, meaning nine out of ten variants went on the Back Order List. The last of the DC 80th Anniversary Specials it seems for 2020 and DC, the Green Lantern special finishes strong.
So for those who can go to your LCBS and see any of these "back order titles," grab them if you want them because Diamond won't likely be sending any more copies of these books. It's possible if LCBS return copies of these books, but not likely, and not likely anytime soon. Though if your LCBS has set up new accounts with Lunar Distribution or UCS Comic Distributors, then maybe they can get some of the DC books.
