Time To Get Physical!

cover-issue1Terry Parr writes,

I was born in a military town. Fort Hood,Texas to be more specific. My mother is Korean and my dad is white. My dad retired from the military and I was stuck in Fort Hood (Killeen) for most of my life. My four older sisters were military brats and they were lucky enough to see other parts of the world. Most of my child hood friends were also half Asian and half White. Being in Elementary school and seeing other kids. It started to occur to me that I was in the minority. I used to joke that if I met another Half Korean kid… I already knew his back story. Their dad was stationed in Korea and met a Korean woman and they married. Probably still true to this day.

I grew up during a glorious time. The 1980s. I was at the right age when Star Wars, Transformers, GI Joe were on store shelves. Even the Bmx bikes we rode as a kid… with the mag wheels were awesome. Later on growing up and discovering music. My sister had an Iron Maiden cassette tape that would change my life forever. (Still a Maiden fan to this day.). Later on friends would introduce me to bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, and Slayer.

Currently, I spend my days drawing comics and going to conventions for a living. While it is fun drawing other peoples characters. I wanted to create my own comic book. In this day it's tough to create something different and unique. One day I watched Red Letter Media's Ninja themed episode on Youtube. They watched Ninja 3 The Domination. That was the inspiration that I needed. It had Lucinda Dickey who was an aerobic instructor who turned into a ninja. Cool idea but terrible movie.

After thinking about it. I wanted to take everything that I love about the 1980s and channel it into my comic. A comic that will have Heavy Metal, Aerobics, Breakdancing, Bmx, and Ninjas. I also wanted to have my character of a mixed race. Sheri Ken an 18 year old dance instructor turned ninja is half Korean. Her being Asian and a ninja is somewhat of a stereotype that I am aware of. In this day and age… I rarely see asian characters. I can't think of any other character who is half of something. I am sure people in the comments section will let me know.

I spent this year writing and drawing my comic "Aerobicide The Extreme Ninja Workout". It's my love letter to the 80s. I was fortunate to partner up with Ape Entertainment. They agreed to publish it but I just need to cover the cost of printing. Currently I have my first Kickstarter going. I was blown away that the book was funded within a day! So glad that people want to see an aerobic ninja fighting weightlifting gangs and yuppies. Right now were are trying to make it to the next stretch goal. Which is a bonus issue called "Pump up the Jam" It still has over a week left. Book is due out spring 2017.

Please check out my Kickstarter.
