Those of you who were expecting a physically cataclysmic confrontation between Miracleman and Young Miracleman in the Miracleman: The Silver Age #7 finale may be disappointed. Instead, it's more like multiple choice. With a Young Miracleman, Dicky Dauntless, or now knowing that he invented that name for himself. Just as Garguanza created a new identity for him as Young Miracleman for his own ends, Dauntless was his own fiction to hide his own history of abuse as an orphan. And faced with a utopia that not everyone sees in that fashion, he takes it to the top.
And asks Miracelman, the transformed Mike Moran, whjat futures are planned for him. And he gets given a choice.
The superhero life, atop utopia, looking down on all. As much a fantasy as anything Garguanza ever created for them.
The human life, giving it all uop, dying one day. Losing any and all advantage he has been given. However evil the roots of his abilities may have been, to lose them may be more than anyone can take. Caxton doesn't exactly seem… happy.
Suicide. Murder. It's a choice. And the kind of thing the Parental Warning on the front of this comic most concerns itself with in this issue, I would warrant. But there is a fourth option.
The blue pill. To quote Morpheus, "This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe." But it seems that Young Miracleman has no desire to take a red pill and "stay in Wonderland" as he knows how deep the rabbit hole goes. And he wants to be something else.
He's the devil in paradise. Because he believes that's what Miracleman, Miraclewoman, the Qys, the Warpsmiths – and everyone need.
He's going to launch a Dark Age. And it all starts in Australia. I mean, that tracks, right?
