X-ual Healing: New Episodes of Agent Carter Debut in New Mutants Dead Souls #5
Sworn to sell comics for Marvel executives who feared and hated the fact that Fox owned their movie rights, The Uncanny X-Men suffered great indignities, but with a corporate merger on the way, the X-Men can finally get back to doing what they do best: being objectively the best franchise in comics.
Each week, armed with the joy, heartbreak, and frustration of 30+ years of reading X-Men comics, we crankily read every new X-book that comes out, recap the events, provide some back-links to Marvel Unlimited, and wonder when Marvel will let Chris Claremont write something again. Seriously, how do you have the greatest writer in the history of comics on the payroll and just not use him for anything?
It's the way X-Men comics were meant to be read! It's the column that can only be known as…

BREAKING AND ENTERING
AT THE SANCTUM SANCTORUM!
• THE NEW MUTANTS are going to rob the house of the one guy you probably shouldn't rob.
• But is what lurks inside DOCTOR STRANGE's lair more than they bargained for?
• Nightmares, evil spirits, dark magic and…questionable leftovers?!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
Chasing down Tran, the brother of New Mutants CEO Karma who has been causing supernatural trouble around the world, the New Mutants team — Magik, Rictor, Boom-Boom, Strong Guy, and Wolfsbane — heads to Doctor Strange's mansion in New York City. Strange doesn't appear to be home, but the mutants enter anyway and split up to search the mansion and figure out what Tran was looking for. Rictor wanders into a greenhouse and meets a pair of smart-mouthed snakes who make some politically incorrect jokes about his appearance. Strong Guy follows Wolfsbane, but she's still mad at him for that whole killing her son while he had no soul and was the lord of hell thing. Boom-Boom raids the fridge. Magik, however, finds Doctor Strange himself, and he's not pleased to see her.
Boom-Boom settles down to watch Agent Carter, which wasn't canceled in the Marvel comics universe it seems, and meets a ghost dog who she shares her chips with. Wolfsbane and Strong Guy find themselves in a nightmare world, reliving past traumas, and featuring a cameo by Cameron Hodge.
The trip down memory lane helps Rahne realize that she isn't the only one who relives her son's death over and over. Guido does too. He breaks down and apologizes, and she comforts him. Good. how long was she gonna hold a grudge anyway?!
Back in the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is not, as it sounds, a filthy sex act, Doctor Strange tells Magik that she's not in control. He encourages her to bring out the Darkchild within and stab herself with her soul sword. Strong Guy arrives and tackles her, thinking she's about to attack Strange, but Wolfsbane sides with Magik. Magik says Strange is lying. Turns out he's Tran in disguise. He tells the mutants that Karma has only been using them as a distraction because they're incompetent. He led them here on purpose. At that moment, Rictor arrives with the snakes holding a green gemstone which the snakes told him can defeat Tran by restoring him to his physical body.
But oops… that's what he wanted the whole time! Left with no other options, Strong Guy grabs the naked Tran and Magik traps them both in Limbo. They collect Boom-Boom and leave.
Meanwhile, in out Warlock epilogue, the boy, Christian, who seemingly killed Warlock last issue, arrives home and locks himself in the bathroom. He seems to be infected with the techno-organic virus, and it's out of control. As his mom bangs on the door, he and his whole house explode.
The Bottom Line
This comic rules.
