Conqueror's Blade Blends RTS with High-Stakes Action Combat
Booming Games' MMO RTS hybird Conqueror's Blade is still in its beta test phase, but it's already managed to do the near impossible by blending real-time strategy with exciting action combat.
Players take on the role of a medieval warlord as they lead an army of AI units into battle against bandits, other players, and even against player guilds (called Houses). Each player character can choose a weapon specialty, and while some of those classes are gender-locked, players can swap weapons as they level up. Each class comes with a set of skill progression, but players can only take three main skills and one ultimate into battle at a time.
While the primary focus of the game is certainly RTS, there is some fusion with action combat as you will need to dodge and block enemy attacks to keep your Warlord alive. Unlike other RTS games that use more strategic combat for commanders, the action hybrid combat for Conqueror's Blade adds an extra layer of complexity and skill to the game which helps it stand out in a sea of Medieval fantasy strategy games.
While you do start off as a recruit in someone else's army, the character progression to building up an army of your own is relatively smooth and decently quick. In a handful of hours I had my own brigade to take around through the Open Beta map, which was surprisingly satisfying.
Ultimately, Conqueror's Blade is a beta test phase I'll be sticking around for.
