Esports Broadcaster MonteCristo Announces Overwatch League Departure

When the third season of the Overwatch League kicks in, it will be missing a familiar voice as Christopher "MonteCristo" Mykles has left. Mykles has had a pretty lengthy esports career, first by forming the team Renegades and making them a powerhouse organization. He also was the coach for Counter Logic before transitioning into broadcasting for League Of Legends, then into the Overwatch League. His time there made him one of the most recognizable personalities at the desk and on commentary, but that time is now over.

In a set of tweets on his personal account, he announced he was done with the League effective today, as it is the last day of his contract. In the posts, he cites that the "departure of Nate Nanzer from OWL led to irreconcilable creative and philosophical differences between myself and the league's current leadership".

It's a shame to see him go, but it does bring into question what those differences could have been. The Overwatch League went through several changes during the second season, which included leaving the Overwatch Arena in Burbank, California and taking the weekly games on the road. A hefty scheduling change that affected pretty much every broadcaster who was based in the Los Angeles area. It will be interesting to see where Mykles ends up and how this will change the OWL team this coming season.
