Everything We Learned Coming To "Battlefield V" At EA Play
The first of the many press conferences before E3 2019 kicked off today with EA Play, and here's what we learned from the Battlefield V panel.
Right off the bat, we got a new look at the next map called Marita. Still in Greece on the border with Albania, you're in a rural town with a steep slope as you defend it from the Axis in an infantry-focused map. The map has a bit of a banana-shape to it, but also has a number of buildings with multiple floors for a variety of gameplay. The map will arrive in July as part of Chapter 4.
Al Sun Dan is an open map in North Africa with no team in control and a bigger focus on vehicles. Adapted from Under No Flag, you are basically in a giant sandbox for a classic Battlefield feel and experience. One of the largest maps you'll ever play on with options for basically any player. This map will come in on Day 1 of Chapter 4 on June 27th. In August, more close-quarters maps will be added to the game, and while we got a bit of a visual, we didn't get an in-depth description of them. Only that it appears we'll be attacking Axis-occupied locations and will have to drive them out.
There are some core-updates coming to the game include the addition of an increase to Max Rank from 50 to 500. A major leap that includes getting coins, rank improvements, and special dog tags. Those will be added in August. Another addition includes Private Games, which will be free to anyone who plays Battlefield V, giving you the chance to create your own games on your own servers. That feature will be on the way in September.
The last map for display is Operation Underground, which by the looks of the footage we got at EA Play is going to be set in a city with a subway as well as several public areas, all designed for flanking strategies. The map will be on the way in October between Chapter 4 and 5. That subway map already looks amazing and we can't wait to get into the strategy of fighting people in a closed space.
Speaking of Chapter 5, the next chapter will head to the Pacific Ocean as the U.S. forces will invade the islands and take on the relentless Japanese forces in some classic Battlefield battles, including Iwo Jima. Lots of island hopping, massive locations where the team traveled to those iconic locations to film and capture them for players to play in. Chapter 5 will come to Battlefield V in November 2019.
