Evo 2018 Organizer Contacts FBI After Mass-Shooting Threat on Twitch

A lesson that people time and time again never seem to learn is to not issue threats to organizations online. Today, the FBI was contacted by Evo Champion Series organizer Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar after the tweet below was added to a discussion thread about security at esports tournaments, showing a Twitch chat room where someone threatened a mass-shooting at Evo 2018.

The tweet quickly got the attention of Cuellar who responded about an hour and a half later to the post.

Whether or not the threat is real is an entirely different discussion altogether, as shooting and bomb threats seem to be near commonplace these days, along with Swatting calls that have shut down a couple of tournaments over the past year, including a few Call Of Duty tournaments. Any threat of violence no laughing matter, and with Evo being one of the biggest and well-known tournaments in the U.S., it isn't surprising someone decided to make them a target online. With any luck, the person responsible will be caught. We'll keep you updated on what happens and whether this changes any plans for Evo 2018 moving forward.
