Exploring The Latest Square Enix Title 'Lost Sphear' At PAX West

One of the best items to find at the Square Enix press area at this year's PAX West was a title shrouded in mystery called Lost Sphear. Up until the event, we had gotten little bits and pieces of news but we hadn't really seen what the game was capable of. While the plot isn't fully explained in the demo, what little we got to play was really cool. You start with an intro scene and battle to introduce you to the RPG system in place, along with some character introductions in their initial town.

The story elements and characters seem almost self-aware of the kind of world you're in, but stick to the logic that they're living their own lives and doing what needs to be done on the side. The fighting has an active time battle system where you can move around and select what you want to do as the fight rages on. There wasn't a lot to the demo itself as it served as more of an introduction that throwing you into the game like the reports from E3 said. But Lost Sphear is very much a throwback game to PS1 and PS2 type RPGs, and that brought a great smile to my face. The game is due out in January 2018.
