From The Grave: Shin Hisako Joins The Killer Instinct Roster Sometime This Month
Killer Instinct revealed a new character yesterday – Shin Hisako. She's a variation on the ghost Hisako but slightly creepier. Because now she's a freaking zombie. We don't know much about the character other than the fact that she was buried at some point and now isn't oh and traded in her naginata for a katana. Classic zombie move.
The announcement came via twitter, as these things tend to do now. The tweet for the official Killer Instinct account is below and features some horrifying background information on the character.
Given that Shin Hisako is just an alternate of the regular ghost-version Hisako, some of her lore probably carries over. The usual story goes something like this: Hisako was killed defending her home village during a raid, died, and became the guardian spirit of the place – as one does. Then the Ultratech corporation comes in and defiles things, so she swore revenge. It looks like she's now gained corporeal form and is going to be slicing things up with that wicked Katana.
We're not sure how the gameplay will differ, but there are likely going to be several changes just because of that weapon switch. A naginata is a far different weapon than a katana – and it's interesting to note that the naginata became the weapon of Samurai women for the protection of their homes during the Edo period in Japan, while the katana was mostly the weapon of Samurai men. Could be this zombie Hisako has a family member to avenge rather than simply defending her home? Or maybe she's just angrier and switched to the more aggressive weapon.
We'll get more details on Shin Hisako's gameplay at the KI World Cup next week prior to her in-game launch sometime this month.
