Marvel And Fox, Sitting In A Tree, Making A Mobile Action RPG
First comes love?! Then comes marriage?! Then comes Tom Brevoort in the baby carriage?!?! Ew.
Has the secret shadow war between Marvel Chairman Ike Perlmutter and rival corporation Fox over the Fantastic Four and X-Men movie rights finally reached a cease-fire?
Probably not. Ike is a stubborn guy, still in charge, and there's still no Fantastic Four comic, after all. But following in the footsteps of Jeph "Jeff" Loeb's Marvel TV collaboration with Fox over X-Men TV shows, Marvel is teaming up with Fox, or at least FoxNext video game subsidiary Aftershock Games, purchased last month from the remnants of Kabam. The project: an action RPG mobile game featuring Marvel's superheroes.
"Aftershock is creating something special, and we are thrilled to finally announce this news," said Jay Ong, the senior vice president of games and innovation for Marvel Entertainment, in a statement published by VentureBeat. "The game will be the full package: an exciting storyline, epic moments with Marvel superheroes and super villains, and incredible visuals that truly bring our characters to life. It's shaping up to be one of our biggest and boldest projects in our mobile portfolio, and we know it will exceed
our fans' expectations."
"The Aftershock Los Angeles team, led by Amir Rahimi, is developing an explosive action mobile game set in the Marvel Universe that will feature an innovative game design with stunning graphics," said Aaron Loeb, the president of studios for FoxNext Games. "To team up with Marvel on our first game at FoxNext Games is a dream partnership."
Wait a minute. Aaron Loeb?! Is House Loeb conspiring to steal the iron throne from Ike Perlmutter?! And with both Fox and Marvel involved, does this mean that the game will feature both Avengers and X-Men characters?!
We'll be following this one closely, so stay tuned.
