Microsoft Presenting Plans for Xbox Live on the Nintendo Switch at GDC
As we get closer to more crossplay options, it appears Microsoft would like to put Xbox Live on other services, including the Nintendo Switch. A new listing is up for GDC 2019 showing the Microsoft has a very specific presentation regarding their service, which is called "Xbox Live: Growing & Engaging Your Gaming Community Across iOS, Android, Switch, Xbox, and PC". In essence, they're going to show some of the benefits of having the service across multiple platforms and not limiting themselves to just the Xbox One and whatever new consoles are on the way.
Takeaway
– Xbox Live players are highly engaged and active on Xbox and PC, but now they can take their gaming achievement history, their friends list, their clubs, and more with them to almost every screen.
– This will break down barriers for developers that want their communities to mingle more freely across platforms. Combined with PlayFab gaming services, this means less work for game developers and more time to focus on making games fun.
If Xbox Live were made available on the Switch, it would be a weird but also major step to having crossplay between the two consoles. It would give hardcore Nintendo players a chance to delve into a library that often never comes their way, and give the service a second online system to interact. We hope to hear more coming out of the conference next month.
