The Raincoat Killer Is Back And Ready To Kick It On Tabletop – Deadly Premonition's Kickstarter Has Begun
Rising Star Games has officially kicked off the Kickstarter campaign for Deadly Premonition: The Board Game yesterday. Future players can back the project with pledges starting from $3, for a total combined goal of $50,000. Within less than 24 hours of the campaign launching, that goal was met and fans now have 29 days to work through the various stretch goals.
You can absolutely still back the project here and get in on the action.
Deadly Premonition: The Board Game will once again take players to Greenvale and have them don the sharp suits and quick wits of police detectives in the wake of Anna Graham's murder, at the hands of the nightmarish Raincoat Killer.
Deadly Premonition: The Board Game is based upon the memorably offbeat characters, creepy locations, and uncanny events that made the 2007 video game Deadly Premonition the cult classic that it is. That game was created by acclaimed game developer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro while the board game is created and devised as a passion project by Samuel Elphick and Daniel Osuna Perez, two members of the Rising Star Games team, and has Swery's full blessing.
The game itself is an adversarial 2-4 player card-based board game where you and your fellow detectives must take on the task of protecting the innocent, incriminating the guilty, and work out who might not be quite who they say they are. One of the detectives is in fact an accomplice to the killer, so you know you can't trust even your own. Basically, it's a card-based version of Clue, but without the murdered billionaire.
The mechanics found in Deadly Premonition: The Board Game are supposedly "unique and original concepts" that feature competitive battles in which players manipulate their own boards toward a victory condition, while simultaneously sabotaging their co-detectives. There is also a hidden identity element to shake things up and reward observation and intuition. Full details about the flow of gameplay, the rules, the different types of cards and their effects can be found at the Kickstarter page.
In the press release accompanying the original announcement, a statement was included from Rising Star Games. "Our vision was to create a compelling, atmospheric game inspired by Deadly Premonition's delivery of big reveals, plot twists and consequential moments", said project co-creator Samuel Elphick. "The venture started out as an idea between colleagues. With hopeful optimism we put together a proposal for Swery and he loved it. Way back in June 2015 we created our first prototype for "Incrimination", which was the skeleton that Deadly Premonition: The Board Game is built upon… We hope you enjoy!"
The Kickstarter page features lots more additional information including pledge levels, stretch goals, FAQs, videos and much more, and the page will be updated with exciting developments as the campaign progresses. The project is currently working on stretch goals for new weather conditions, unique artwork for paired cards, and guide cards.
