Shenmue 3 Gets a Host of New Screenshots to Gawk At

Developer Ys Net has continued to share what they can of Shenmue 3 with fans by showing off a couple new screenshots.

There most certainly has been a lot of excitement for Shenmue 3 since it was announced. The game is trying to revive the cult favourite series, which has a pretty rabid and dedicated fanbase. When it was shown off at E3 all the way back in 2015, the game Kickstarter announcement for the game nearly blew the roof off of the auditorium. I know. I was there.

It's been recently reiterated that we can expect the game sometime this year, and with that, I'm sure we will start seeing more and more material from the title hit in the form of marketing. Thus far, everything we've seen has had a weird plastically look to it, but it's clear that is part of the style the developer is aiming for. You can see that continued in these brand new screenshots for the game. There are four here and they are… interesting looking. Without seeing these in motion it is hard to judge, but there is definitely a style here that would be consistent with the series, if not by modern sensibilities. Take a look:

There is definitely a 'look' to Shenmue 3 is going for. It's super colourful and stylised and I imagine it will be quite divisive. It's as if current technology has been used to update the characters but exactly as they were as opposed to creating something closer to 'human'. Again, it will be hard to judge until we see it in motion with complete animation. With the game coming in the next 10 months though, you can't imagine our look at that is too far away at this point.
