Sony Asks Japanese Gamers to Spend Their Otoshidama Money on Monster Hunter: World
When a big PS4 game is about to be released, Sony often releases a live-action commercial in Japan to push the upcoming launch, and Monster Hunter: World is no exception to that rule.
As usual, Densha Otoko star Takayuki Yamada comes back to reprise his role of being a massive gamer. Yamada has pretty much become the face of PS4 in Japan after appearing in so many of these commercials.
In the Monster Hunter commercial, Yamada gives three colleagues envelopes containing Otoshidama money on New Year's day. Otoshidama is the Japanese New Year and includes a tradition where parents give money to their children for New Year's. The tradition can also be practiced at work where older workers gift their younger colleagues or Kouhai.
Yamada's colleagues immediately start talking about what they'd like to buy with their Otoshidama money, and Yamada starts fuming since he wants them to use the money to purchase Monster Hunter: World to play with him.
It's also worth mentioning that Monster Hunter: World will be a PS4 exclusive in Japan. So of course Sony is trying to push it pretty hard.
Monster Hunter: World is set to release next month.
You can watch the Monster Hunter: World live-action commercial below, though it is entirely in Japanese.
