Dead Island 2 Has Lost Its Developer
Publisher Deep Silver have announced that they've dropped Yager as the developer on Dead Island 2. In a statement they said:
With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.
After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner Yager. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.
Dead Island 2 was due out this Spring, but it missed its release date before getting delayed. Something is obviously off with this title, and you'd have to assume Deep Silver is not happy with the product as it is. That's surprising as Yager are a good developer. They made the striking title Spec Ops: The Line last.
What does this mean for Dead Island 2 now though? Hard to say. I can't imagine the project will be scrapped, as it's likely we will just see another developer come in and iterate on what must be a sizeable amount of work that Yager has done.
