Instead Of Launching Of New DLC Going Forward, Destiny Will Be Event Based

destiny-logo-wallpapers_36550_1920x1080-600x337A lot has been made about the cost of playing Destiny. If you picked up every expansion in the first year at launch, the game costs around $120, which is a big turn off for many. This was thanks to two big DLC's before the expansion The Taken King came a knocking.

Well, going forward, it seems that won't be the case. Instead of those initial smaller DLC plans, it seems they've bee scrapped in favour of free events for the community. We've already seen two this year with the Festival of the Lost and Sparrow racing, so expect more like that. Speaking to Eurogamer, senior designer Derek Carroll revealed the new model going forward saying:

With Taken King, we are moving to a more event-based model–things like Festival of the Lost and Sparrow racing, which is our winter event, and then smaller events such as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris every weekend. Rather than doing these giant, monolithic DLC packs, this way everybody who's an owner of Taken King can enjoy these things

Activision did tell Gamespot however, that this is the plan for this year, but it isn;t set in stone for 2016:

Sparrow Racing is our holiday event and activity for 2015. We don't have any expansions planned for this year. We've yet to announce plans for 2016.

This is a really neat way of not making this game a couple hundred dollars by the time it is complete. Logic would dictate that Destiny 2 or the equivalent will be with us in September of next year mind though, so I would expect to see that announced before too long.
