Xbox announced this week that they have formed a new partnership with AMD, as the two are locked into a multi-year hardware agreement. The finer details weren't revealed; in fact, Microsoft and Xbox only really put out a short video about the announcement with some minor notes, and AMD has yet to officially comment on it. But based on how the two companies have worked together in the past, and some of the rumors that have been coming out online, it's becoming very clear that Xbox will indeed have a new console in the next few years. What's more, based on the tech AMD has been developing, it's more than likely going to play more like a gaming PC than your standard console. Obviously we're not going to know more until we get closer to Xbox actually revealing what they're working on next, so for now, here's the video.
Xbox x AMD
We've established a strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles. Together, we're delivering deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences – grounded in a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library.
The collaboration aims to uplevel the player experience by delivering advanced graphics with enhanced visual quality, more immersive gameplay using the power of AI, and compatibility with players' existing Xbox game library. Together, Xbox and AMD hope to enable play across devices in entirely new ways, delivering an Xbox experience designed for players, without being confined to a single store or tied to one device. At the same time, Xbox is continuing to work more closely with the Windows team to ensure that Windows is the number one platform for gaming.
