Avengers: Endgame Title Was Decided Before Production Started
To say that Marvel has been keeping their secrets close to the chest these days would be an understatement. The studio has always been very secretive but they took it to a new level by refusing to reveal the title of Avengers 4 for a long time. We finally got that title with the first teaser reveal and fans were quick t point out how Doctor Strange said the word "endgame" in the movie. Marvel Megaboss Kevin Feige was at the Golden Globes and spoke to MTV about the title reveal.
"It was in place before we started developing the movie or just as we were developing it, yes. So Doctor Strange says that line because we knew it was the title."
Fans have also pointed out that Tony says "endgame" in Avengers: Age of Ultron so the title makes sense. However, the problem is that it goes against something that the Russo Brothers said back in early May. In an interview with UPROXX the directors revealed that the title wasn't spoken in Avengers: Infinity War.
Is the title of the fourth Avengers ever spoken in Infinity War?
Joe Russo: No.
Okay, because people have been looking for clues in the dialogue.
Anthony Russo: It's certainly grounded in the narrative that we have been following throughout the MCU – very well grounded…
If this title was decided right as production started, as Feige said, why would the Russo's lie about it? Perhaps they were just trying to help keep the secret but not answering the question, which happens a lot when you ask people involved with Marvel questions, is usually the way things are done. We got a definitive "no" back in May and now they are going back on that. Let's just hope these white lies don't become common with Marvel; it'll make covering them extremely irritating.
