Bryan Cranston Has Picked The Wrong Time To Root For Donald Trump

In a pretty harsh example of bad timing, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has changed course and decided to give President Donald Trump a chance, just as early steps are being taken toward Trump's impeachment. Cranston, who was previously anti-Trump during the election, revealed in an interview with THR that he's rooting for Trump to succeed:

"It's just astonishing to me. President Trump is not the person who I wanted to be in that office, and I've been very open about that. That being said, he is the president. If he fails, the country is in jeopardy. It would be egotistical for anyone to say, 'I hope he fails.' To that person I would say, fuck you. Why would you want that? So you can be right?"

Of course, success or failure for Trump is an uncertain metric. To Trump, success might be eliminating the free press while kicking all muslims and immigrants out of the country and starting a nuclear war with North Korea. In that case, we can think of several reasons someone might want Trump to fail other than bragging rights. Multiple charges have already been filed by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russia and impeachment or resignation seems more and more inevitable.

It seems like nonpartisanship is Cranston's main idea here — but his statements come with unfortunate timing:

"I don't want him to fail. I want him to succeed. I do. I honestly do. … And if you've got a good idea that helps the country, oh man, I'm gonna support you. I don't care if you're a Republican and I'm a Democrat or whatever, I don't care. A good idea's a good idea. Let's do that. We've got to get away from this idea that our country is political football, and someone with a different opinion is the enemy. Assume they love this country as much as you do, and there's always room for improvement. How can we make it better?"

One possible idea: getting rid of Donald Trump. Just putting it out there.
