Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Is The Top Selling Game Of 2014

For a while Call of Duty has been on the fall. The game was once an immovable behemoth that reigned over the console market, but in recent years, that has looked much more fragile. The series has seen a distinct fall in sales and some people were proclaiming that the franchise no longer reigned king.

That has proven to be a little less true than first thought though by NPD (via Polygon), who released a list for the top selling games in the US last year. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare came in at the top, Madden 12 in second, Destiny in third, Grand Theft Auto V in fourth and Minecraft in fifth.

It's worth noting these numbers only account for physical sales mind. The one on this list I'm really looking at is Minecraft, which does huge digital sales numbers on PC, mobile and console stores. I'd even wager adding in all of those sales would make Minecraft the top selling game of this year. That is complete conjecture though.

The top 10 reads like this:

1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

2. Madden NFL 15

3. Destiny

4. Grand Theft Auto 5

5. Minecraft

6. Super Smash Bros (for 3DS and Wii U)

7. NBA 2K15

8. Watch Dogs

9. FIFA 15

10. Call of Duty: Ghosts

So what does this all add up to? Nothing really for audiences apart from a faint outline as to where the industry might be headed. Actually scratch that. We've learned the fact Activision made a ton of money off of two Call of Dutys and Destiny.
