The newest episode of Arrow entitled A Matter Of Trust was chock full of plot movements all wrapped around a villain of the week story with a special guest star and a few surprises. The main story involved Green Arrow trying to take a new designer drug called Stardust off the street. The name of the drug was a nod to the man playing the drug dealer Derek Sampson… former WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes, though credited under his birth name Cody Runnels.

The main theme of the episode was a mix of trust and leadership. Oliver Queen needed to trust Thea at the office, Green Arrow needed to trust the new recruits and Oliver needed to trust the Bratva in the flashbacks. He also had to learn that being a leader means taking responsibility for the people he leads and what they do.

Another important scene brought back an old favorite character… Deadshot. It seemed pretty obvious to me that he was merely a figment of John Diggle's imagination, but it was nice to see Michael Rowe back in the eye-patch… though he makes a really good Ninjak too…  Floyd Lawton's role here was to make Diggle accept the guilt he has for killing his brother Andy. I have a hard time believing that Diggle would give up on stopping the guy who stole the nuclear trigger even if he is guilt riddled. We'll have to see how that plays out.

They started to deal with Felicity Smoak's guilt for Havenrock by having her admit to Rory Reagan / Ragman that she was the reason the bomb hit his home instead of Monument Point. They didn't immediately hug it out and I wonder if this will drive Rory away eventually.

We got to meet the next vigilante we should be seeing on the show…. Vigilante. We saw a sketch of him in the first episode, Felicity referred him as 'Goggles', but now we've met his alter ego Adrian Chase. He tries to get help from Oliver for a warrant on Derek Sampson and seems more than fine with the Green Arrow having brought Sampson in.

The rest of the episode included everyone suiting up including Curtis Holt… he even explains the Fair Play jacket as an homage to a wrestler named Terry Sloane / Mr. Terrific that he idolized as a kid. Terry Sloane was the Golden Age Mr. Terrific in the comics, so a nice nod. And we see Quentin Lance officially made Deputy Mayor, so at least he now has a job.

This may have fallen back into the villain of the week format, but it was done well with a lot of important moments sprinkled in. Runnels performance as Sampson was exactly what you'd expect and worked well in the episode. There is a certain chaos feeling going on with the series right now with so many vigilantes and plot threads going on and it's exacerbated by Flashpoint having happened and the feeling that anything could happen. I think the writers are using that chaos to their advantage and are making a good fifth season.
