Captain Marvel Will Be "the First of Many" Female Lead Movies

To say that Captain Marvel has been a long time coming would be a vast understatement. Captain Marvel feels like a movie plenty of superhero fans have been waiting a lifetime for. For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it means finally seeing a solo female heroine take center stage in a movie. It's been ten years and twenty movies and it is finally happening. What does this mean for the future? Kevin Feige spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and seemed to hint that this is the start of something new for the cinematic universe.

"We feel like it'll be the first of many," says Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

However, to the surprise of almost no one, when pushed for why it took ten years and twenty movies for this to happen, Feige didn't have a good answer.

There are reasons to be hesitant but once Marvel had Disney money behind them, there was no reason this couldn't have happened sooner. Now there is a Black Widow movie in production and people are rightfully pointing out that this feels like a movie that should have been part of the original phase one set of movies. This might be the start of something new and different, we might get more female lead movies going forward, but the fact that it took a decade to get here? There really isn't an excuse.

Now give me an A-Force movie you cowards.

Summary: Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will also star Brie Larson, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
