Christopher Nolan's War Movie 'Dunkirk' Poster Revealed

Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan's Warner Bros. backed World War II epic has finally dropped it's movie poster ahead of the anticipated trailer release due later this week.

Slated for a July 21st, 2017 release date, the film stars Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road), Cillian Murphy (Inception, 28 Days Later), and Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall), Dunkirk is about the desperate defense and escape of the British and Allied troops from mainland Europe in May-June, 1940 with the full German army bearing down.

So far we'd only really seen the teaser video above which really only WWII buffs would react much to since it didn't tell a lot about the story for the uninitiated. The Battle of Dunkirk hasn't remained as much in the public consciousness as the attack on Pearl Harbor or the D-Day invasion, but it was another major battle that could have been a tipping point if things had played out just a bit differently (things were looking so glum that Britain had begun discussions of a possible conditional surrender to Germany) .

In the end things did turn around, and it became known in the press as the Miracle of Dunkirk even before the dust had settled. With Nolan's penchant for dark, gloomy, and not very happy filmmaking, this should be one to please action film as well as history buffs – assuming he doesn't take too many liberties with the storyline.

Keep an eye out, we'll be posting the full trailer later this week when it releases.
