Dante Basco Wants To Make A Rufio Prequel To Hook
Actor Dante Basco starred in the film Hook way back in 1992, but his character Rufio struck a chord with audiences. The leader of The Lost Boys in Neverland when Peter Pan shows up, his darker demeanor and mohawk made him the most memorable part of the film (arguably). Have you ever wondered where he came from and what his origin story might look like? Well, Mr. Basco would like your help bringing that exact story to life.
Bangarang: A Short Film About Rufio Before Hook has been launched on Kickstater. The film will tell the story of the Roofus, the orphan who became Rufio. From the Kickstarter page comes a synopsis:
This is the story about Rufio, before the mohawk, before Neverland, before he was The Pan.
Roofus is a 13-year-old kid who is destined to be more than he is. After his mother is forced to put him into a foster home, he and his rag-tag group of best friends – a Jamaican boy named Julani and a bright-eyed latina force of nature named Ella – find a way for Roofus to escape his ill fate, find his happy thought and fulfill his destiny.
They have a very obtainable goal of $30,000, and as of this writing they are already 80%+ of the way there as of this writing. But if they reach some other lofty goals of around $200,000, they will turn this into a feature-length film. Some of the pledge rewards include behind the scenes access, personalized letters from Basco, digital and real autographs, and voicemails. And hey, if you pledge $10,000 you can be an executive producer on the film, so that is something.
The Bangarang Kickstarter runs until March 14.
