From Spider-Ham to Sinister Six Sony Isn't Ruling Anything out for Future Movies

With Venom turning into a box office smash, even if it was critically maligned, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse looking to break the glass ceiling of superhero movies never winning awards, Sony looks like they might have their act together — or at least they don't appear to be actively failing on every level. That means that everything is on the table and producer Amy Pascal reveals some of those potential movies to Vanity Fair.

We already know that there is a sequel and a spin-off in the works over on the animation side, but Sony is well aware that the rest of the supporting players could easily have their own movie.

Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker could help further bridge the gap between superheroes and anime. Meanwhile Nicolas Cage does such a good job of making a character like Spider-Man Noir funny, it's almost surprising no one has thought of this casting before now. Then there is John Mulaney as Peter Porker the Spider-Ham and Pascal and Avi Arad absolutely see the character as something that could sell tickets and movie merchandise.

"Of course! You can imagine how much the kids love that character," Pascal explained. "Yeah," longtime Spider-Man producer Avi Arad added. "We want piggy."

On the live-action side, we have some interesting things going on as well. There is going to be a sequel for Venom and the Jared Leto starring Morbius movie seems to be moving ahead. There are also movies based on Black Cat and Silver Sable, Kraven the Hunter, Cindy Moon aka Silk, Carnage, and more are in various stages of development at Sony.

It sounds like a project we all thought was dead could be in the works again. Pascal seems keen to make that Drew Goddard Sinister Six movie a reality again.

"I'm just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it. I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I'm just waiting for him to tell me he wants to," she said.

It hasn't escaped anyone that Cindy Moon is slated to appear in both an animated movie and a live-action movie but Pascal insisted that animated Spider-Man projects and live-action projects are two very different things.

"Just look at what the Green Goblin is in Into the Spider-Verse, as opposed to the Green Goblin that we did with Sam Raimi," she said. "[The two depictions of Cindy Moon would be] as different as Doc Ock in Spider-Verse and Doc Ock as Alfred Molina."

At the moment Sony is feeling rather confident between Venom, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home. Sony and Marvel might have shared custody for now but that doesn't mean that it's going to stay that way.

"I think about crying," Pascal said of a future in which Spider-Man and Marvel retreat to separate corners. "I can only hope for a future where things work out. I've known Kevin since he was Avi's very, very quiet assistant, who for many years sat in that room listening to us and being so much smarter than any of us without any of us realizing. I will say that working with Marvel has been one of the highlights of my professional career."

For now we'll have to see what projects end up getting off the ground and which one's get stuck in limbo. Maybe their next live-action movie could be a critical and commericial succes instead of just commericial.

Summary: Spider-Man crosses parallel dimensions and teams up with the Spider-Men of those dimensions to stop a threat to all reality.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, stars Shameik Moore, Liev Schreiber, Lily Tomlin, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Luna Lauren Velez, and Hailee Steinfeld. It will be released on December 14th.
