Green Arr… Lightsaber – All The Star Wars References A Fan Could Want

Last night Arrow episode 100 aired and it was an awesome reference fest according to a few sources that wanted to remain anonymous, but I'm happy to take their information and ride it out to you guys. The references were sometimes obvious, often visual, and mostly Arrow related, allowing them to pay tribute to where the show came from naturally. But there were a few references that were actually sources in a galaxy far, far, away.

We weren't alone in noticing it, a lot of Twitter users were all over this, and Yahoo! even put something up.

OK, the obvious Star Wars prod first, and that's when Curtis Holt comes up with a great deus ex machina:

I like to call it my 3P0 processor. "I am fluent in over 3 million forms of communication."

Then, before the two biggies there's a few stretches. Firstly; Wild Dog addressing Supergirl as "Sweatheart" is pure Han Solo. Secondly; the pan out from the alien mothership is very much Nebulon B-Frigate at the end of Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back. Finally; the last shot of a large vessel going over the camera is the typical SW large ship shot, but it's not quite as huge.

All of this pales in to comparison to the obvious, first, big reference (just before the "frigate shot) with Ollie seeing the "force ghosts" of people giving him the push that he needs.

Finally we reach the last true Star Wars reference (that I got – contact us with more, or post in the comments!) which was when they are escaping their prison cell (in and of itself a huge reference to A New Hope) they more directly reference a famous scene (and perhaps George Lucas' tinkering with it) when they run in to a room *full* of Dominators. EEK! What follows is Ollie 'Solo'ing' them as they all run away.

After this we get a very Sci-Fi but not quite Star Warsian launch of the Dominator fleet. This, though, is instead very, very, nu-BSG.

Whatever you think, and we liked it a lot here, it's a massive tribute fest not just to Arrow, but to a lot of other stuff that sounds to me like a joyful, joyful, silly, fun watch.

When I say that you should buy something, please understand I say that in full knowledge that the prices of comics are just flat out wrong. I'm talking to the select few with enough disposable income to actually pay $3.99 for ~20 pages, often less. Anyway, me? I'm a generally affable chap, happy to shoot it over a pint of proper beer (that's ale to some), I read basically anything, but I've found I'm now finally learning to love the small press / self-published scene a little more, even though I'm a relative newcomer to it (10y).
