Interesting Opportunity For UK Screenwriters

brightlightFrank Spotnitz and his UK-based Bright Lights Productions are looking for two UK-based screenwriters to join their immersive writer's room project that will will involve shadow work on an upcoming series.

Spotnitz, who has worked on such series as X-FilesMedici: Masters Of Florence, The Indian Detective and The Man In The High Castle, will first focus on the new CBS series Ransom. The idea is for them to start working on what would be the series second season if it is renewed. The idea is to get intermediate level TV writers more experience on long-running series and team writing. Candidates have to provide original samples. Women and diverse candidates are encouraged to apply. The call for submissions will close January 13. Folks seeking to apply should contact Big Light here. Interviews will take place around January 23rd with work beginning January 30th. This is a paying gig… which is described as an allowance, help with living expenses and transportation.

Ransom, created by David Vainola and Spotnitz, debute Sunday night and will now move to an 8 PM on Saturday time slot. Though the debut was only a 0.9 rating (0.7 is usually the kiss of death on the major networks), the series is Canada-France treaty co-production, meaning the cost is much lower allowing it to fill a less watched night… like Saturday. The first season is 13-episodes and is loosely based on the real-life cases of hostage negotiator Laurent Combalbert and his partner Marwan Mery.
