Is Doctor Who's Bill A Period Character From The Eighties?

CgwSIsaVEAQmjQNBleeding Cool is really, really bad with mindless speculation about Doctor Who. Things we see as text are merely subtext, we always think it's more complex than it is, especially when it comes to time periods and timelines.

So, in for a penny…

Bill, as seen in the teaser for new Doctor Who, as played by Pearl Mackie, wears a light denim jacket. Her shirt is from the sleeve liner art for Purple Rain by Prince. She has a "Wow" badge. Everything screams "eighties".

The Doctor talks about 2017 being the future.

Bill does not know what a Dalek is. Shouldn't she? After the various invasions that took place through the noughties and teenies, would there be any human who would not know what a Dalek was by now? Unless she comes from a time before then?

Just a thought.
