James Cameron Still Wants To Push Cinema Tech With HFR And Glasses-less 3D In Avatar Sequels
James Cameron really does love to experiment technology as it pertains to how we view film. He has made it a mandate of sorts to really look and find new ways to present movies to us in his long career.
It seems that passion is as hot as ever too. Avatar was obviously massive for 3D, and while accepting an honorary membership from the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Cameron said he wants to push things much further in the sequels.
He said:
I'm going to push. Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range and high frame rates, the things we are working toward.
I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen, with no glasses. We'll get there.
High Frame Rate is a controversial topic right now, with some critics and audiences hating the look, but Cameron is Cameron, and I expect he will push on regardless. While I'm skeptical glasses-less 3D on a cinema screen is close, the idea is defintely enticing. I can't wait to see the day it does finally work well.
