Kingsman: The Golden Circle's Taron Egerton And Colin Firth On Becoming Action Stars

There is absolutely no doubt that a movie doing very well can change the life of the actors involved. In the case of Kingsman: The Secret Service, it changed the lives of its two main leads in very different ways. Taron Egerton and Colin Firth both sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about how their lives have changed since the first movie and going into the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

For Egerton, it was simply that the first Kingsman was his first film:

"I'd never been in a movie before. My life, from a work perspective, is unrecognizable. The change has been particularly profound."

For Firth, it was a little different, because he hadn't been known as an action hero in any sense of the word. He recalls being on set with Egerton during that first movie:

"I remember your first days on the set of Kingsman, telling me how everything was so new, and I said, 'This is pretty new to me as well.' There's something quite strange about me being an action star. I'm only beginning to realize at my age that you shouldn't ever think you've reached cruising altitude. I did not expect to be over 50 and doing a film that was so physically challenging."

Egerton went on to talk about one of the main differences in terms of preparation for these two movies:

"I've not really spoken about this because it wasn't something I was very keen to reveal, but it's in the trailer now. There are moments of us fighting side by side. On the first movie, prior to us actually shooting, there would be one of us walking out of a sweaty gym room, agonized, exhausted, while the other was walking in. One of us going, 'Bloody hell, that was rough!' and the other one going, 'Well here I go."'I guess the thing that was fun this time was that we walked into the stunt department together. And that was really fun."

And Firth agreed with him:

"You're absolutely right about that, Taron. I think it's one of the biggest differences from the first to the second in terms of preparation."

Egerton was eager to have Firth at his side for these action scenes:

"It's very nice to have you as my partner for that stuff. Because I was never the kid in school who was picked first for the rugby team."

Firth, on the other hand, likened to the two of them as "fellow amateurs" and what that first month of training was like:

"I was the kid in school who was picked last for the rugby team. We are fellow amateurs. But to be thrown in again with these stunt guys who are all world champions athletes — that first month of training was not just painful but emasculating."

One of the best parts of the first movie was the easy chemistry between Egerton and Firth, so the fact that we get to see more of it in the sequel will be a treat to behold.

Summary: When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, the Kingsman's journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US. These two elite secret organizations must band together to defeat a common enemy.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle, directed by Matthew Vaughn, stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, with Sir Elton John, and Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges. It will be released on September 22nd.
