In an inspiring performance sure to sway fans' opinions of Roman Reigns, WWE Raw general manager Kurt Angle reportedly put on the best match of Roman Reigns' career last night at WWE Tables, Ladders, and Chairs. Angle, who hadn't wrestled in a WWE ring in more than eleven years before last night, was filling in for Reigns, stricken by The Mumps, in his match with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose against The Miz, Sheamus, Cesaro, Braun Strowman, and Knox County libertarian mayoral candidate Kane. However, rather than wrestle under his own Olympic hero persona, Angle instead decided to actually wrestle the match as Roman Reigns, donning Reigns' signature ring gear and taking Reigns' spot in the Shield's through-the-crowd entrance.

While the actual match was something of a cluster@#$%, nearly ending in tragedy when Angle was injured mid-match and walked out of the arena by medical staff, but that turned out to be just another signature Reigns move, with Angle taking a break in the back for most of the match and then returning at the end to score a victory. Angle pinned The Miz as the crowd roared in approval, a reaction that Reigns has never been able to get despite being pushed by the company as top babyface.

Many WWE fans are calling the match the greatest of Roman Reigns' career, despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that Reigns himself was not present. By happenstance, thanks to the Mumps infection, WWE may have finally figured out how to get Roman Reigns over with its audience. All Reigns has to do from now on is actually be Kurt Angle, and the crowd will cheer him no matter what he does. WWE officials, according to Al Isaacs' Scoops Central newsletter, are pleased with Angle's performance as Reigns, though there are no plans to have him continue in the role after Reigns returns from illness.

But there's still time to change their minds.
