Mark Hamill Disney Legends Acceptance Speech At D23 Expo 2017

If you're not at the D23 Expo this weekend, then there is a good chance you didn't get to see Mark Hamill become a Disney Legend yesterday. Hamill calls himself an avid collector of rare Disney memorabilia, pointing out that his Disney Legend award will be hard to beat. This is one of a handful of Disney Legends being given out this weekend including Carrie Fisher, Stan Lee, Ophra Winfrey, Jack Kirby, Garry Marshall, Julie Taymor, Wayne Jackson, Manuel Gonzalez, and Clyde "Gerry" Geronimi.

The award announcement came with a bit of a negative response as fans of some of the above creators found it a bit disingenuous for Disney to lay claim to people who never directly worked for the company, but rather Disney bought the company they worked for. But the majority of fans appreciate that these folks are being recognized for their contribution to the fields of Comics, Film and Entertainment.

In his speech, Hamill quoted baseball great Lou Gehrig who said, "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth."
