New Version Of The Powerpuff Girls Coming To Cartoon Network in 2016
The Powerpuff Girls is a bonafide franchise for the Cartoon Network so of course there's more Powerpuff Girls coming our way soon. It was announced today that a brand new series following the adventures of Bubbles Blossom and Buttercup will be hitting TV screens in 2016.
Rob Sorcher, Cartoon Network's chief content officer, says:
The original Powerpuff Girls was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide. We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.
The original Powerpuff Girls, all hand drawn, ran for six seasons on Cartoon Network between 1998 and 2005, and then a 10th Anniversary special aired in 2009, and then another special aired just earlier this year, though the 2014 special, digitally animated, had no input from original creator Craig McCracken.
No word yet on whether the new series will be hand-drawn or digital, or whether McCracken will be involved. But you'd think they would have mentioned him in this announcement if he were, right?
