[Rumor] Terry Rossio in Talks to Pen 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Reboot for Disney
Do we *REALLY* need another Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? Disney sure seems to think so, as they are reportedly continuing with their search for a writer for the still-in-development reboot of the swashbuckling series.
Back in December, the Chief of Film Production at Disney Sean Bailey offered a non-update about the likelihood of Johnny Depp's character Captain Jack Sparrow being involved, neither confirming nor denying Sparrow's presence.
What Bailey DID confirm was that Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were on board (not a pun, we swear) to pen the reboot:
We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that's what I've tasked them with.
Cut to last month's news that a new mutiny had found it's way aboard the reboot, and Reese and Wernick had jumped ship. The report went unconfirmed, but, it seems like it was probably correct.
Discussing Film says they've got the scoop on who is stepping in for the reboot, and he DOES have Pirates in his background.
The site sas Terry Rossio, who penned Disney's original animated Aladdin, the Armie Hammer-starring The Lone Ranger, Shrek, The Mask of Zorro, and the screenplays for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is "in talks" for the position.
There is no telling when we may hear an official update on this piratical reboot, but perhaps D23 would be likely. We'll let you know what we hear about this rumor.
Would you even WANT to see another Pirates film, or are you content with playing Kingdom Hearts III's pirates world?
