Second Trailer for 'Serenity' Offers More Narrative to Murder Plot
An ironically-named title, Serenity is not what Matthew McConaughey experiences when he discovers there's far more going on than he realizes on Plymouth Island.
Not to be confused with the Joss Whedon 2005 sci-fi film of the same name, Academy Award winner McConaughey stars as Baker Dill, a fishing boat captain offering tours of the island. A sense of uneasiness preoccupies him only to be made worse when an old flame in the form of his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) comes back into his life.
Karen asks Baker to kill her abusive husband (Jason Clarke). Baker begrudgingly agrees despite moving to Plymouth Island to escape his old life. Some quick shots of Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong reveals there are far more at play here when Baker is asked not to go through with the murder.
The second trailer doesn't reveal anything new, but in between shots, bits of the plot are revealed in fragments.
The film has promise in the way it carries itself has the potential to set a tone similar to other island-themed thrillers like Cape Fear and Shutter Island.
Serenity is written and directed by the Oscar-nominated Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things), and comes to theaters January 25th 2019.
