"Shazam", Homelander from "The Boys" Posters by Robert Bruno on Sale Friday
Robert Bruno is on a tear as of late. His list of corporate clients – including Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Sony, FOX, ESPN, MLB, and the NBA – is estimable. His illustrations have become a fixture of the convention circuit. He's collaborated with both ACE Comic Con and Celebrity Fan Fest to create publicity and badge art. If you're not familiar with his nearly comprehensive MCU series of character posters, they are emotional, dynamic, and evocative; definitely worth a look. His latest posters, Shazam and Homelander, were used by the convention for their art for their Gold and Platinum VIP badges, while the printed posters initially went on sale at Celebrity Fan Fest in San Antonio last weekend.
The first of the posters going on sale Friday is a portrait of Shazam as played by Zachary Levi from this year's movie of the same name. The poster finds Shazam in a serious moment, portraying him as having a quiet nobility. According to Bruno, the poster focuses on the iconic lightning bolt on the front of his costume and meant to "pay homage to the Renaissance era paintings."
The second poster depicts the Homelander from the Amazon Prime series The Boys, played by Antony Starr. It captures the false patriotism of the character as well as his hidden brutality. Those who've watched the series know that that red, glowing eye is a sign that somebody is about to have a very, very bad day. The idea behind this poster "was to capture his characters duality. A superman-esque beacon of good and hope on one hand and then his true psychotic/self absorbed nature on the other."
Both posters are, like the rest of Bruno's superhero prints, fine art giclée prints, 13×19" in size, and have a total run of 100. The remainder of the limited edition posters go on sale at his site this Friday at 6 p.m. EDT.
